Interventional Radiology

Interventional Radiology (IR) is modern medicine. While the number and types of procedures in this highly sub-specialized field of medicine are vast, the majority share core principles. Diagnostic and therapeutic IR procedures are typically performed through a tiny incision in the skin where interventional radiologists deliver precisely targeted needles and catheters into various organ systems. Reduced risk, shorter recovery time and improved health outcome are just some of the benefits of IR.

Radiology Group's interventionalists are involved in the treatment of patients as well as the diagnosis of disease, providing a full array of patient care for the head & neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis and extremities. Some examples include diagnostic angiography, therapeutic embolizations, stent placements, venous access, dialysis catheter placement, thyroid FNA, breast biposy, CT-guided solid organ biopsies, bone biopsy, and chest tube placement procedures to list just a few. A more comprehensive list of general IR and vascular IR services offered are below.

If you have questions about any particular service offered or how to prepare for any scheduled procedure, please contact our department and ask for chief IR technologists Ric Willingham or Billy Ackerman: 334-293-8172. Or for general information contact Tara Chavers 334-293-8121.
