spine and joint injections

Spine and joint interventions can be both diagnostic and therapeutic. Typically a patient is referred with symptoms of nerve, joint or soft tissue inflammation. Our interventional radiology physicians will review your medical records and imaging studies, then perform a brief physical examination to help decide what procedure may be offered to pinpoint and treat the symptom.

Commonly, degenerative disc disease and joint disease of the neck and low back will respond to epidural and facet joint injections, respectively.  Typically, these minimally invasive procedures consist of placing a small needle to a precise location under imaging guidance to a site of inflammation and then injecting a combination of local anesthetic and steroid which serve to reduce pain and treat inflammation.

Other types of minimally invasive procedures may help to alleviate debilitating pain from compression fractures caused by osteoporosis or cancer.

You may discuss these options with your primary physician or call our coordinator to determine how you can be further evaluated by one of our interventional radiologists: Tara Chavers 334-293-8121
